Invisible Agent, Video Still, 2015.

The video performance was filmed over seven days, during which I packed and unpacked the boot of my car with my mother’s motorised wheelchair. The wheelchair extends her limbs while travelling within and out of the house. The wheelchair is a motorised machine: it is a transport device that holds the body in a sitting position. In this video, what is missing from the chair is its occupant. I am assembling and disassembling the chair as the only visible body.

When I take my mother out, she often isn’t addressed when she is paying for her items. This work speaks to the invisible bodies, the bodies that are not seen and the labour that is associated with the body.

Both disability and care are invisible actions.
