Balancing act and holding on is a photographic diptych. In the work, I perform with a leg brace and calliper. It was a new, unused one made for my mother’s leg. My mum has worn leg braces her whole life. It supports her paralysed leg and keeps it straight or bent for sitting. Like the leg brace, I have also helped my mum walk. During her decline, I have been her walking stick. This has changed since her being in a chair.

As I perform with the calliper; I hold it and balance it. A carer’s role is always changing. This ever-changing role is a juggle, a toss of the ball between, holding on, balancing and letting go.
